Valspar Features Environmentally Friendly Coating – Fluropon Pure – at 2017 Living Future UnConference

[May 2017]

The Valspar Corporation, an international leader in exterior architectural coatings, will feature Fluropon Pure, the company’s latest advancement in sustainable coating innovation, at the 2017 Living Future unConference. The unConference takes place from May 17 to 19 in Seattle, Wash., with Valspar. The Living Future unConference is a congregation of the construction and design industry front-runners who further mankind in combatting and minimizing environmental issues.

Valspar is welcomed to the unConference for the second consecutive year to feature its Fluropon Pure exterior architectural coating. The vetting process to be an exhibitor at the Living Future UnConference is strict. Program coordinators ensure that every displayed product and project meets all Red List requirements, and that exhibiting companies participate in the Living Building Institute’s JUST program.

As part of the Living Future UnConference, a challenge was set for the creation of sustainable buildings, products and communities – called The Living Future Challenge. Meeting the challenge head on, Fluropon Pure holds two product-based certifications; including the Materials Petal, which consists of a products’ intent to use non-toxic, sustainable, and trustworthy materials, and two Declare labels – one for the coil and the other for the extrusion coating - which discloses the contents, source and lifecycle of the product.

Fluropon Pure is the first of its kind in the coating industry. With reassuring material transparency, Fluropon Pure has no dangerous chemicals to hide. The coating protects against harsh outdoor elements, humidity and corrosion, as well as dirt, stains, and chemicals. Additionally, Fluropon Pure is available with solar-reflective pigments to resist heat absorption. This feature is extremely beneficial for projects that are working to achieve LEED v4 certification and help with Heat Island Reduction.

The first commercial project to use Fluropon Pure is set to open this fall. Silver Oak Cellars, the renowned Californian winery, set goals to achieve LEED Platinum and Petal Certification on a new building. Fluropon Pure was the optimal choice to help Silver Oak Cellars meet the desired sustainability objectives

“Fluropon Pure is the result of Valspar’s commitment to sustainability and desire to create products that meet our clients’ changing needs,” said Jeff Alexander, Valspar VP of sales, coil and extrusion division. “Fluropon Pure does not contain harmful chemicals like hexavalent chromium, lead, phthalates, and PFOA. With Fluropon Pure, Silver Oak Cellars is on its way to LEED and Petal certification.”

Fluropon Pure’s environmental benefits have made an impression in the architectural world and with those focused on environmental sustainability. Enough so to prompt Jason McLennan, founder of International Living Future, to use Fluropon Pure paired with Metal Sales metal wall panels on his personal residence. This home is the first residential project to feature this enduring and environmentally sensitive coating. Tours of the McLennan property will be available during the conference.

The Living Future unConference will take place at the Westin Seattle Hotel on 1990 5th Avenue. In addition to the tradeshow, attendees will be able to enjoy speakers, educational opportunities, networking and more.
